how to make a folder private ?

Any folder that is under your personal profile you can make private. Your personal profile should be C:\Documents and Settings\User_name if you installed windows to the C drive. Any subdirectories under this one can be made private. My Pictures, My Documents, and such folders are under your profile already. So you might just want to make a folder under My Documents called Private Documents.

1. Right click on any folder in your profile.
2. Select Properities
3. Select the Sharing Tab
4. Click Make This Folder Private
5. Click Apply
6. Windows will make sure your account has a password
7. Click OK

The best way to make a folder Not Accessible to everyone is to remove the access rights from the folder for this you need to change the FAT of the partition (Drive) to NTFS.
when you create/change your partition to NTFS then go in the properties of the folder (right click the folder and select properties) go to the security tab and under the "Group or user names:" section remove all the users accept your's and for your user name allow the Permissions. Now this folder is accessible only from your account (when you logged in windows by your id).
If you want that it should not be accessible from your account also, then remove every thing form "Group and user names" section, so whenever anybody form any login click to open this folder will get the error message "Access denied".
Now if you want to access this folder then again goto properties and security tab, add your user to the Group and user names section.
I am using this trick to lock my folders. may be it'll be also helpful to you.

This is the best way. go to command prompt, rename the folder with ascii characters (Be sure you does remember those character). No one will be able to open it. Whenever you wanna make it editable. Go to command prompt rename it and use it.
