Sidney Crosby he will be amazing in a few years but now he is already one of the best.

Brodeur is the best goalie, hands down. I don't think this requries explanation.

I'd take Lidstrom as top defenseman. He's so smart, and skates so smoothly. Definitely one of the better passers of his generation, a threat on the point, and responsible defensively.

Top forward? I like Joe Thornton. Crosby will be the best, hands down, in a year or two... But right now I'm gonna stick with Big Joe... He's getting hot as his team needs him down the stretch, is on a tear that could land him his second consecutive Art Ross Trophy, and is just a great presence on the ice.

It's too tough to distinguish further than that as each position has different responsibilities etc... Though if I had to pick I'd say Brodeur.

At which position? I'm going to go against the popular and say Brodeur is. Sure Sidney Crosby is great, and as a Pens fan I really like him. If we were going by offense only then maybe he is the best. If you go by goalies though most would put Brodeur at the top of the list, maybe not number one but pretty close. An amazing goalie can do more for your team then a single great offensive player. Yes Crosby has talent. I still think an amazing goalie makes you a better player.

Ummm i'm gonna catagorize that into three categories.

Forward- As of right now Sidney Crosby only because with his talent he makes whoever is on a line with him a whole lot better.

Defence-Scott Neidermeyer has the speed of someone 10 years younger than him and makes plays even when he's not in it.

Goalie- Roberto Luongo, In my eyes is probably gonna go down as the best goalie in history some day. The man is clutch.

This question is impossible to answer for me. Many are good at different aspects of the game. On any given night, anyone can be the best player.

Consistency is the key, and this year it looks like Crosby has been the most consistent offensivly based on stats.

you know you are going to start a verbal war.there is a lot of talent out there right now and i think it would be hard to say who is the best.the obvious answer most people will give will be crosby because the media plays him up,but i think every team has at least one great player(some have several).they might not score as many goals as crosby but they set their team mates up or put a play in motion for a scoring chance.

i would have to say the new captain, nick lindstrum. he's been the norris trophy winner for best defenseman 4 out of the last 5 years and is on track for a 5th. on the best team in the nhl and i think defense is underrated in all sports. the little things going to the ice to stop a pass or block a shot. he does it all and does it the best.
