Definitely 'The Boy Who Couldn't Cry' by Rowan Isaac. I found it in a bookshop in London, but I've seen it in Fopp as well. It's short stories with these amazing illustrations. You should definitely check it out!! x

I take it you are asking for a work of fiction but IMHO the most inspiring book I have read in the last few months was "The Coming Plague" by Laurie Garrett. This book is non fiction and concerns the outbreak and spread of new diseases in Africa.
We tend to forget that there are people who willingly go to places where unknown diseases are rampant to try to find a cure knowing full well that they may be killed by what they are researching. The stories of self sacrifice and caring by the WHO, UN, and CDC personnel show that there are people who put unselfishly put themselves ahead of others for greater good.

"A Northern Light." Its a very inspirational story about a young woman who wants to be a writer but has to deal with so many family obligations and expectations that she's finding it hard to get anywhere with it. Of course it was also set in a time when women weren't expected to become anything other than a wife and mother.

The Long Walk by Steven King.
The book really made you think and was very fascinating. Usually not a fan of his but this is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It isn't for everyone, though.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Imagine a world where all 16 yearl olds are made pretty. The downside is they become duller and more controllable by the government.

"i never promised you a rose garden". it's about a 16 year-old girl battling schizophrenia. terrible things from her childhood like lies, horrible insults, and almost unbearable pain have caused her to create an imaginary world in her head with imaginary gods in order to escape from the horrors of the real world. at first it is like paradise, a calm during a storm. but then it begins to become like the real world with its own rules and punishments as well as lies and pain. a doctor of psychiatry is desperately trying to help her and telling her not to give up. the doctor's goal is to make the girl realize that life isn't a rose garden, but living in the real world with people who love and care for her is a lot better than living in a world just as bad that doesn't even exist.

Definitely God Came Near. It was a Christian book, as you can probably tell, but it is my next favorite book after the Bible. It was amazingly powerful!

It's not exactly a recently published book but it is recently read for me. "Bridge to Terabithia" is a very emotional, well-written book. A must-read for all.
