The game we used to play while we were young Paper Stone Scissors; how and where did this game originate from?

This is what I was taught: 1. Rock beats scissors because you use the rock to bash/dent the scissors. 2. Scissors beats paper because the scissors cut up the paper. 3. Paper beats rock because you wrap the rock up with the paper (and give it to someone for a Christmas present!)
