A good author does a lot of research for the story he/she is writing. If this is what your story is about, look up things about the region and the times, how people have survived shipwrecks and such. Remember, he also needs to have a source of fresh water along with food, building a shelter, making weapons to protect himself against predators etc.

I wish you all the best and continue to write.

Find out what region the Aztec Islands are in and do some research on the web, if you want it to be realistic. If realism isn't what you are looking for and just need suggestions think tropical.
Bananas, coconut, mangoes, papypas, ect. Don't forget the fish.

Well, its a story. He can eat anything you choose for him to eat. He's on an island right, so he could eat fish. I dont no much about this place, but maybe you could find out what kind of fruit grows there. Or maybe he has to hunt wild animals. Or maybe there is nothing much there and he has to eat somthing really gross like sand. It's your story, you're in control.
