They're not bad.
I'll probably be branded as a heretic, but I often find them a bit disappointing.
For instance, you ask which I consider to be his best. I would honestly answer that this would be the first 90% of "It". Fantastic gripping stuff, terrific "baddy", lots of spooky stuff going on..........then King seems to run out of steam and we end up with some crappy cosmic spider..........what a wash-out !

Stephen King books are great.
I think his best one so far is probably The Shining, but so many others are great, like Cell, The Tommyknockers, Needful Things, Cujo, the list goes on.

I used to read a lot of Stephen King books. My favourite is Dreamcatcher but i find his style varies a lot in some of his books & i've not read any in at least a year. Guess i just went off them. I now prefer James Patterson and have read just about every one of his and definately recommend you try some.

Seriously, Stephen King books are amazing. So many movies are based on his books, you just don't realise. 'Needful Things' is fantastic, and so are some of his short stories. Read 'The Shining'!

I like King's books. Sometimes the ending is a bit weak. I liked Shawshank Redemption, Rose Madder and Nightmares and Dreamscapes (a collection of stories)

Personally, i love the majority of them.
Green Mile is my favourite with IT a close second. I'm on my second copy of Different Seasons, which includes The Shawshank Redemption and the story that Stand By Me was based on, as i read the first to tatters. The Dark Tower series is great too.
The only one i cannot get along with is The Tommyknockers.

Generally I really enjoy Stephen King books, however I would agree with previous answerers that some are better than others.
My favourite is "The Talisman" which he co-wrote with Peter Straub.

Delores Claiborne is his best book. The Shining is a close second. He is a great writer. The one knock I have is that he has some trouble with endings. Several of his books just don't quite seem to come together, he doesn't seem to be able to wrap it all up. This is not the case for all of them but it is the case for enough of them that it can be frustrating.

Yes, stephen king books a worth checking out. I'd say that 'the stand' is my favourite, but 'it' and 'tommyknockers' are great also. I agree that they do tend to go on a bit but if you stick with it you'll be glad you did.

Not usually but one of the best books I have ever read was "The Long Walk." I just finished it and everyone that I have met thus far that has read it agreed you couldn't put the book down once you started it. Just fascinating and morbid but it really makes you think.
ps. I loved Shawshank Redemption, too. Extraordinary story
