Why do people eat when their not hungry and starve themselves when they are?

People eat for a lot of reasons beyond hunger. It's noon. You're supposed to eat at noon so they do. They're bored. Nothing to spice up your night like a big bowl of Nachos! It's social. You're at a party and everyone's eating. You're on a dinner date-how rude would you look if you didn't eat although you are so nervous you can barely put your lipstick on. It's a reward or a way to feel loved. Sometimes food is used as a way to express love (think Grandma's cookies). So if you feel unloved or lonely, a cookie might make you feel better. Or you deserve that supersize meal because you worked an extra 2 hours on your project. Starve when they are hungry? Weight loss would be the biggest reason, I guess although I think starving is probably an exaggeration. Another is control. Anorexics have this issue (along with a couple of others).

Most people starve themselves because they want to be skinny.

when they are because, of varying emotional upheavals in their
lives.It could be boredom, stress or comments from others
on their physical condition
