Don't be embarassed, we all started somewhere at some time! Check the tag and make sure there aren't special instructions for them.
Towels are easy. They're usually pretty durable. If you've never washed them before, I'd wash the towels only so that they don't lint all over your clothes and the color doesn't bleed all over everything.
If yours are particularly dirty, wash them in hot water, otherwise just wash them in cool or warm, whatever your preference. The dryer will kill anything "growing" on them.
Kind of evenly line the washer with them. Towels are notorious for getting lumpy in the wash and causing it to go off balance.

Dark towels can be safely washed in either cold or warm water. Hot could cause them to shrink out of shape or fade them. You can use the regular wash cycle.

You dont need to put it on delicate and dont need to use only cold water. I would put it as a regular load, regular cyle, in warm water. The only thing is that I would put it with dark colored clothes. You dont have to wash just the towels together you can put them with other dark clothes you are washing. I would put them on a reguar cylce in the dryer as well, but add a dryer sheet to fluff the towels and make them smell nice.

No worries! We all have to learn - it is not something you know innately! Towels should be washed in warm or hot water just as your sheets should. Hot water is the only way to kill dust mites. You can use the regular cycle on the washer. Be careful not to add bleach or you will discolor your dark towels.
Good for you for doing your laundry!

my grandma told me to wash everything on cold. it saves on your bills, and it still comes clean. i think there might also be less likely a chance that things will shrink. towels are not delicate (only bras or things that look delicate or say that on the tag are). and if anything ever smells, and you can't get the smell out, dump a 1/4 cup of baking soda in with.

i wash mine separately from clothing only to keep away the lint balls. However...DO NOT use fabric sheets or fabric softener with sheets. Many manufacturers tell us that these products take away the fabrics ability to soak up water...which is what the towels are for....

cold is best for dark colors
delicate will not spin them enough to remove water..use normal or even heavy duty cycle and rinse in normal otherwise it will take hours for them to dry.
