When I had my son 6 years ago, my ob said she didn't support decisions about tubal ligation during pregnancy or after birth. Did anyone else hear this? Also my mother had a hysterectomy in 1981, and my friend said there must of been something wrong with her for the doctor to perform that surgery and my mother says there wasn't, she just wanted it done and that was ok back then. Does anyone else know of this happening? My guy friend and I are arguing and I'm tired of hearing his opinion on women's bodies and what's the right thing to do with them!

Some docs think making the choice to not have children while you are pregnant is a bad idea because of the hormones and the stress your body has been under, they think you will regret it. I had a tubal after my second DD was born, I was 33, had 7 miscarriages before her and her older sister were born, so maybe that is why my doctor agreed to it. I, too want to have a hysterectomy, ovarian cancer runs in our family, but my doctor won't do it. He says I am too young. Years ago they would have just given horomone therapy, but in the years since they have found that may not be the best for your body. My mother too had a hysterecotmy at a young age, in the late 70's early 80's.

I still want my operation. I am currently looking for another doctor that will do it.

I think most OB's want you to wait especially if you are under 30 and have only one or two children. For the tubal.

Although I have no idea why anyone would do a Hyster.
for no known reasons. Whose to say. Most would think of it if the woman has had a family history or tumors - or an irregular pap. It's a pretty invasive surgery to just "do".

I had a tubal with child #3. I was going to be 30.
Had three beautiful children and was having a c section.
So I wanted this done. I did have a few regrets though actually when my youngest went to first grade. I think most OB's should "listen" and bring up a few issues because it's costly and a hard to reverse.

I was 21 in 1986 when I gave birth easily and naturally to my healthy son, ignorant as I was I let the doctor give me a tubal directly after the birth, well whatever drugs they gave me for that put me in a fog for 3 days , I can barely remember the first 3days of my sons life. This would have been an important time to bond with my son but the tubal ruined it. I have regretted this ever since. I should have waited to get the tubal.
