3^x + 5 = 9^x = (3^2)^x = (3^x)^2
Let y = 3^x
Therefore, y + 5 = y^2
or, y^2 - y - 5 = 0
Solve using quadratic formula :
y = [1 ± sqrt(21)] / 2
But y = 3^x can never be negative, so the
only solution is y = 3^x = [1 + sqrt(21)] / 2
Using logarithms :
x = log{[1 + sqrt(21)] / 2} / log(3)
That's the exact solution.
0.93436337... is the approximate solution.
