You do not need a licence because you're not allowed to burn rubbish in your back garden. If you do light a fire intentionally and my colleges and myself from the Fire Service ar called out to put it out you could be charged for it

No but you are liable to get a fine if you do this, it is now against the law to burn rubbish in your back garden in the UK. If you do and the fire brigade are called out they are duty bound to put the fire out no matter how small it is, and you may even get the bill for them doing it. I have also heard of a man burning rubbish on waste ground, he was charged with wilful fire raising.

You don't need a licence, but some estates are 'fire free' which means you cannot light fires in your back yard. Get in tough with local firemaster and ask him. Do not phone 999 though get no. for local fire station in fon book

I know we had a neighbour who didn't appear to like us having bonfires in the garden (shropshire, UK) so I did look it up & apparantly its down to common courteousy ie try & do it at night once they have all of their washing in, and if you do it all the time you can get done for being a nuisance neighbour. If you are concerned you could check with your local council website which should be able to advise the rulings in your area.

If your mum says that you need a license to do so then listen to her. Contact the council in your area or local fire station (don't use emergency number or you may get a fine) and ask for advice.
Some areas have different laws and rules. Better to be safe than sorry.

No licence but local smoke-free laws prevent the use of open fires.

Contact your local council and find out about local by-laws, these can vary from region to region.
In the Republic of Ireland it is illegal to light backyard fires and you can be fined for doing so.

If you live in a smokeless zone, you mustn't light a fire, full stop! Otherwise, so long as you don't annoy the neighbours or put smuts on their washing, why not! ! !

Not as far as I know, it's quite regular here. But if it's a big fire you can expect someone to call the fire brigade.

I'm not sure about the UK, but in the southern US you typically have burn bans. From time to time you may burn trash, debris, etc., but you have to pull a city permit and have fire officials on site for emergencys. Hope it helps.
