In simple words :

Correlation is the realtion between 2 variables.

Say

I want to know the relation between



Number of classes attended , and marks scored .


Obviously there would be a high positive linear correlation.

That means those who attended more classes , scored more.

A function of correlation is considered when we want to find out the change in one variable upon change in another

for example , a linear fucntion :

y = a + bx

y= 1st variable

a = fixed quantity

b = change in x

x = 2nd variable



variance basically means to variate or differ from the other kinda like the opposite of a relation .
