Oshin - a japanese series broadcasted by NHK from 1983 to 1984. - I watched a translated one - I don't know Japanese- It shows the social and economic changes ordinary Japanese people underwent before and after the war. I enjoyed watching the life style and the story was good.

Yes. Monkey is good too. Just remembered it when saw the answer above mine. It's been more than twenty years since I watched it. I was a kid and I don't remeber much of the story now. But I remember how much I liked it then.

There are Asian series on tv? I had no idea. I guess the only one I know of is Iron Chef on the Food Network. The translations are pretty funny on that show.
