We're renting a house from private now, but will move to another neighbourhood in like 2 weeks. We use the washer of our landlord, who lives right besides us, and we co-use the washer, as our house is too small for a washer (I'm suuuuper-happy to get out of here).
So yesterday, I told our landlord, that we'll be getting the keys very soon. 2 hours later, all at once, she tells me, that the washer is broken, with an attitude. Let me say you, I don't like them, anyway, they have sort of a "You owe me!"-attitude regarding many things and they're not the most honest people. We don't have a written rental contract, as they used to be hubby's friends, and he thought, he could trust them, and he started living in this house, before he knew DD and me, so they can afford to be hostile, too.

I don't believe, that the washer is really broken, I think, she's only pizzed, that we move and that I'm not very eager to babysit her kids for free and that I generally don't like our kids playing.

I have good reasons for not having our kids playing together. They have a creepy boarder living with them, and they're very filthy people (dirty house etc). Also the kids aren't raised very good, real little brats, as they always get their will.

The problem is, what to do about my laundry?;-) And should we deduct it from the rent, if they don't get that washer fixed? We only just need to pay for a few days in April, anyway.

And no, I didn't broke the washer, I'd go over there and demand, that they get it fixed, or we'll deduct the costs for us going to a laundromat from the rent, but hubby won't let me - they used to be his friends, and he doesn't have a backbone, when it comes to them.

They already knew for months, that we're going to move to that house - it was just finished and we just got the notice of the exact date 2 days ago. But they knew, we'd move this spring.

Oh, and as we live in a rural area, we don't even have a laundromat here, as I just found out, just on the campsite, and you can't even use it, if you don't have a travel-trailer or tent standing there.

OK I will simply explain how I would handle it. I would cut off dealing with the landlord. My children would not go over there. I would use the laundromat (at least you have it available) and pay my own way without expecting reimbursement. After all, you don't have a lease, so you have no right to ask for reimbursement. I would pay attention to the new home and not worry so much about the old one. After all, you're getting out very soon. Good luck!

Sound like the move is the best thing here. Leave them alone. The washer being "broken" is not convenient, but that is all over. Find a place to do your laundry and leave them alone. You are not obligated to more than 30 days.

Written contract or a verbal one...you have to give thirty days notice. That's the law in the states anyway.

like the previous said, what is the question? ok.... u dont like ur landlord but it dosent matter anyway cause ur moving. thats why u dont rent from friends because they turn on u eventually and yeah she said it was broke cause she aint want u to use it. so just go to the laundry mat.

Since there is no written contract there is nothing they can do, unless they can prove that you broke it. You didn't break it so don't buy it!!! Move on and be done with em!!!

if there is no written contract then you aren't entitled to pay for anything. Good luck in your new home xxx
