Well I'm from Wisconsin and our descent is mostly German and Nordic. Where I'm from we love goulash, lutefisk, chili, sauerkraut, blood sausage, venison (including the heart, don't knock it till you try it!) anything with the words "Hot Dish" in it cooked by a big woman in an apron on the verge of having a heart attack and all you can smell is cow crap from the mud room. Add in Lots of butter and salt and a big glass of milk right out of the bulk tank in the barn followed by an evening of cigarettes and lots of beers, now that is Soul Food! You probably think I'm kidding, but really I'm not.

I have to agree with the poster above I am a white sourtherner and I eat that all the time, the difference between soul food and southern cooking is the color of the cook.

Austrian 'soul food' would include:

Leberknudel suppe (Liver dumpling soup)
Fruchtknudel (Fruit dumplings)
Weiner schnitzel (Breaded veal or other cutlets)
Backhendl (Roast chicken)
Kartofle salat (Potato salad)
Kaiserschmarren (Scrambled up pancakes)
Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage)
Apfelstrudel (apple strudel)

Many more dishes that I have left out...
