Nearly an impossible question to answer. Why? Which X-Men group are we talking about?
Clearly an X-Men team of Storm, Phoenix/Jean, Wolverine Cyclops and Collosus could take the Fantastic Four down. But, would an X-men team of Beast, Cyclops, Ice Man, Angel and Jean (NOT yet Phoenix) best the Fantastic Four? Probably not.

X-men, more of them and the Fantastic Four's powers are not all the fantastic compared to mutant abilities.
You should read X4....the X-men get the Fantastic Four's powers and show them up with them.

Please, there's no question here! X-MEN!!! Dream team for the X-Men would include Wolverine (for his awesomeness and healing), Jean Grey (telepath, telekinetic, etc.), Collossus (insanely strong and has the fastball move w/ Wolverine) and Iceman (counter to Human Torch, could freeze Mr. Fantastic, just like in the movies). Battle goes down like this, Collossus and The Thing go at it, Wolvering slice and dices at will, Iceman freezes the Human Torch, and Jean Grey occupies Invisible Woman. Once Human Torch and Mr. Fantastic are taken out by Wolverine and Iceman, it's just a numbers game until The Thing and Invisible Woman go down.

It would depend on which X-Men would be fighting and how many X-Men. I think most combinations of four X-Men would win.

no doubt it would be the x-men...just throw the Professor into the fray and the result will become more obvious... *plus* the x-men would just easily outnumber the fantastic four

X-Men would win simply by fact of sheer numbers. There's a whole lot more than just four X-Men.
X-Men vs. Avengers, OTOH...

Last time they tangoed, Storm got her arm badly burned by the torch, that was the extent of the damage. At the time, the FF weren't exactly a well meshed unit either.

The X-Men would win regardless of which incarnation we are talking about, especially if Professor X fights alongside.

Storm is the msitress of the elements. The FF are heroes with powers based on the ancient Greek elements. Storm and her friends would master the FF.
