Hi

This is going to sound strange but I need some help to do with cheerleading at my time of the month. I use tampax, but I'm always so worried about leaking etc, and I can't run off the field halfway during a game to change. I don't want to go on the pill because I heard it makes you gain weight?

Please help.

There is a brand new tampon on the market (I'm not sure if Playtex or Tampax makes it) that they are advertising on TV it is a "sport" tampon...dunno what makes it different but might be worth it for you to chcek it out...also you can always use a pantyliner for backup...

There are loads of things that you can try. I have recently discovered the mooncup! See http://www.mooncup.co.uk/ You will never need to buy tampons again! It works as well!

If you are worried about tampons or anything leaking, then just top up protection with a small sanitary towel. You may also be using tampons that are not the correct strength for your period flow, try using a heavier flow one for the beginning of your period or whenever you bleed more.

Ensure that you keep changing them at regular intervals as well, this will stop them from leaking and keep away infections etc.. So, put a new one in just before you go on the field if you can.

Like I said above though, the mooncup is a great way of forgetting tampons etc totally! Take a look at the website!

Hi Mac. I understand your problem well. Always change your tampon just before going on the field before a match, & use a super slim pant liner for back up. I know you shouldnt use a tampon of higher absorbancy than you need, but in this case, for a short while, it might be worth it. I find Tampax can leak, because they expand lengthways, but if you try Lil-lets (Available in the UK), they expand widthways, to stop leaks. These will give you more security & confidence.

Hope this helps

Wear a slim, discreet towel as well that no one will notice for extra back up.
