She is getting quite fat and she never goes in her wheel she just chews on the bars of her cage. She has plenty of chew things in her cage but still chews the bar. I have had a few pet hamsters in the past and all of those have spent most the night running in there wheel.

Lazy hamster. Take her out and put her in a hamster ball on the floor and let her exercise that way.

if it is a syrian DO NOT get her a friend as suggested or u will have 1 or 2 dead hamsters. they r solitary.

as they age often wheeltime lessens and sometimes stops so yes it's normal. some of them are picky and will only use certain wheels so u could try getting another kind. maybe a wodent wheel or SAM workout wheel which are the best. make sure it's solid, none of those with rungs that their feet can slip thru.

as for th chewing, she wants out. ideally she needs a bigger cage. if u have the cages with tubes, u can connect 2 cages & that will sometimes satisfy them-mostly older ones. 1 cage is just too small, but the easier solution is to get her a ball.

let her run in a hamster ball every night for hours while u r up. (put tape on the lid!)mine run from the time they get up usually around 8pm til i go to bed. i put them back every hour of course for a water break & they chew when they're ready to run again. chewing is their way of saying "im bored!" they will chew when they want out & stop after they get enough runtime. while it may not stop chewing entirely, it will decrease a lot if they get to use the ball.

also before u go to bed, hide her food in different spots in the cage rather than in 1 bowl. she'll enjoy the hunt after his run. good luck!

It's Lazy yh and thats fine
go to the vet and check her out if shes allrite
Then if its ok then try checking if the wheels not to high for her to reach
Check she has a healthy diet and lots of water and give her just a tiny bit less food to lose weight
Then put her on the wheels and see if she starts running if not get her a lil friend propably the same sex otherwise ull have babies
Then if that dont work check if they even get on with each other
Then if not there is this ball and you can place her in there then when she will walk it will spin around your carpet like go up down left or right
Hope i helped choose as best answer!!!

your hampster must be related to mine. He will either cross over the wheel or squeese under it but never use it. He spends most of his time in his house but when he hears the sound of any kind of food out he comes. If i give him dog biscuits or carrots I put them on the other side of the cage. he gets the food and brings it either inside his house or very close to it if he can not fit it. He looks healthy but very lazy. i tried the hampster exercise ball. did not work. he would sleep in it. the only time I think he was active was when I had a female hampster with him. not a good idea

she is depressed because you have imprisoned her in a cage! get another hamster so she can have company and so she can play and discuss her problems with a fellow hamster!
