It is a decision to free up band width, digital signals are smaller and more compact allowing for more "stations" or other users to fill in those empty spaces, it is needed for Cell phones, police frequency's, ect. Like it or not it is a technology for the future. .

1. digital signals can be easily identified and controlled
2. more channels in the same band (a frequency ussualy holds a single channel if the signal is analog, a digital frequency holds a range of 3-6 channels)
3. more channels means more tax money (broadcasting permits and so on)
4. safety reasons... many analog broadcasting channels boost their signals during bad weather and as a result Analog signal creates noise in the surrounding frequencies (in some cases it has been noted to create noise in the communication channels). Digital signal on the other hand comes out as a straight line without creating noise.
5. european union has decided that all broadcasting mainly for safety reasons and the limitation of radiations will be digital by 2013

Because it caries the answer to various questions of transporting data along with entertainment and keep a watch on what is being watched by a user.
which is a concern as it breaches the privacy of what is being watched

You can fit far more channels on a digital wavelength. Its cheaper to run and allows interaction.

it is more ecnomical for the consumer and the corperations, thus , they are behind it, just like when tvs first had to have uhf which was new, they are just keeping products updated is all
