Not unless you've time traveled to the 1800s when women were still chattel ( but then, slavery existed then, too )
The handing of the woman's hand to her new husband is to signify the passage of CARING for the woman. Providing for, etc. ( not that this happens much these days, women usually work outside the home as well ).
If I for one second believed my husband thought he owned me, I'd be out the door so fast I'd leave a fire trail. Marriage is a partnership with benefits not provided by our society to other relationships. It's a necessity, a convenience. I didn't and don't feel I need it for me emotionally. I can make and keep a commitment without the piece of paper..But it makes sense legally.

It's just a symbolic gesture that the Dad has raised his daughter and she's starting a new life as someone's wife. It's just like the Father and Daughter dance which makes weddings so sentimental.

Well, in some third world countries that may seem like the way, because some fathers sell their daughters, but not the case in Western society.

No. It's just a tradition for the father to give away the bride. Much like whomever catches the bride's flowers will be the next one married.

Why you think about women like slaves or some kind of things? We belong to our selves. By the way this point of view has been overcame since 50's. You should synchronize with the present!

No one owns anyone so theres no transfer of ownership. I think its just a transfer of caring for the woman.

ehhh not really... but i want to ask you something... don't you believe that if you're the boyfriend (not husband...yet) then you own the girl?
i never had a dad..so...when i get married...well...i guess i go from not being owned to being owned?
well, right now i've been living with my boyfriend for like 2 years...almost...and i dont consider myself a possession of his, but close.....
hmmm... you make one think sometimes...
hmmmmmmmmmmm..........

some women really get into being treated as if they are someones property. it makes for some really hot sex. nothing wrong with providing her kink for her. it's the mature thing to do. have you been watching black snake moan? if you don't get her motor running, someone else will. if you are responsible for her, you may as well treat her as property.
