You need to have the Air bag system checked out. Go directly to the dealer. The air bag is one of thoughs things you do not leave unchecked. When you take it in most likely the dealer will say " Yeah we have a service bulliten on that. It's Blah Blah, Takes about an hour to fix, Here is how much it will run" but definatly take it in ASAP. With it being a Mini (At least in my area) they will come and pick up the car while your at work and drop it off when the work is completed. see what they can do for you.

The handbook will have section explaining the meaning of all the warning lights including this one.

The warning light indicates a fault somewhere in the airbag system, most likely a faulty sensor though it could be a control unit. The airbag will not go off accidentally whilst the warning light's on but there's a risk that it may not deploy when required, i.e. in an accident, or may deploy at the wrong time in an accident - too early or too late.

You should get to the dealer with it as soon as possible.

If the light is RED, then the problem is very very urgent and should be sorted immediately! The airbag is designed to potentially save your life.
Yellow warning lights can be left for a while to be sorted, but not red ones!

It means there's a problem - that's what it's for. It might be something simple like a duff connection or it might be more fundamental.
I'd get it professionally checked, you certainly don't want the airbag going off for no reason, or, worse, not going off in an accident!
