Wow as you guys may know or have already answered I have sent out a question asking peoples opinion on the subject of choosing to be gay or is it just that they are born that way. I got a lot of good insight and will be using alot of opinions in my study. This is all confidential and I thank you for taking part in it. So here comes part 2 of my study. Recently a group of us (students) came up with a really good question that could possibly draw some what of a conclusion to our question. There have been many cases and studies of IDENTICAL twins. One is gay and the other is straight. The percent of the other actually being gay is reported to be 50% of being gay or bisexual. We have done a study with one pair of twins and it is fact that one is gay and one is not. So here is my question again ladies and gents. Are some individuals born gay or do they choose to be gay?
I will most likely get some of the same feed back but I need all the help and insight that I can. Thanks guys!

i think there are likely genetic factors that make us gay. but sexuality, in whatever form (gay, straight, other) is the result of many things in our lives. some genetic, some from our upbringing, our perception of our environment etc. Whatever the contributing factors are, i doubt we'll ever have a simple equation of A + B + C= gay. or straight for that matter.

from a personal standpoint...i think i've always been queer. when i was 5, i had a crush on Han Solo from Star Wars....so i don't think there's ever been a time in my memory that anytihng could have happened to change my orientation.
but some guys and girls don't realize it 'til much much later in life. That doesn't necessarily mean they all of asudden turned queer...but it took them that long to realize it.

back to the first paragraph, i really don't think there's a simple answer to this.

Best of luck in your research!

I believe most cases there are born gay but I think in some cases they may chose to be gay. Like I have had visions of making love to a women but I choose not to because Im into men( I am a women) Now that is something I have set my mind to just like they do. Mind over matter you can do anything with your mind, even convince yourself you are gay. When they arent born gay I think its just lust or wonderous of the unknown thats makes them curious and they end up liking the rush and decide this would make their life happier. But thats little ol' me's opinion. Good luck on your studies and I hope you get all the info you need.

I know I've given this theory before, but orientation tendency is like a scale, with 1 being ultra straight and 10 being ultra gay. If a set of identical twins are born, each landing somewhere on the 5/6 range of this scale, then depending on the individual and their environment growing up (and even if they are in the same household, they can have different upbringings), the scale could tip one way for one and the other way for the other.

we see this question posted, and are asked this question so many times a day it's gotten really tiresome and ridiculous. no offense! but, we are born gay! I never made any choice. nothing happened to make me "turn" gay. yes, it's true that even in identical twins, one can be gay, and one straight. they share identical DNA, obviously....but no identical twins are 100% identical. it's like color of hair, eyes and skin. it's variations in DNA. I have friends from way back in jr and sr high who are identical twin sisters....but they are "mirror" twins. one is left-handed, the other is right-handed. yet, they look absolutely identical. what causes the difference in handedness? simply a variation in genetics.

I believe that individuals are born gay and they don't really choose to be gay. Of course once they realize that they are they can either accept it or deny it.
I mean you are born to fall in love with women or to fall in love with men. I often use this to stop all those pathetic critics they give gay people. There's nothing sinful or wrong with them!

While Identical twins may start out from the same egg, outside influences in the womb can cause variations in the developmental stages of those eggs.

i believe pple are born gay. in my mind i cannot phathom any other reason why a man would see another as sexually attractive. i strongly believe gay pple cannot fight against their character. i am homophobic myself, but do not discriminate against them for the above reason.
those that i can't stand are those who out of sexual perversion & curiosity indulge in homosexual sex. it is deceptive & cruel of them to raise other pples hopes. they are the real enemies of the gay community.

I think it is both, because i think you are born gay but you have to decide how you are going to live your life. you can choose to be straight, but you will most likely live unhappy, or you cann choose to be gay and be happy because you are out in the open, but then deal with society.
