ok I know it seems childish but we just moved here about three months ago and as spring arises my neighbors yard begans to bloom and look wonderful. She is an aweful person who is the town gossip and has already made false accuzations about us causing problems with other people. She doesnt even know us. Well since she thinks she is so much better than everyone on this block I am making it a goal to beautify my yard. I just dont know how any advice I am new at this, its our first home.

This might be a stretch, but had you considered asking "the hag" for advice? I'm assuming she's lived there for a while, and knows what works and what doesn't. I mean, you might have to swallow some of your pride, and it could be that she's opinionated and might come across as bossy. But, the best way to make someone feel better about you is to seek their advice. Don't you think your yard will look better and feel better if you're in a relatively harmonious relationship with your neighbor?

You don't have to bend over backwards or anything, but just complimenting her yard and indicating your interest in upgrading yours might soften her up a bit.

Of course, if your goal is to beat her into submission, my words may be falling on deaf ears. I hope not. I think it'll be better for your long-term peace of mind to have a friend as a neighbor rather than an enemy.

If you are doing it yourself, and not hiring somebody, the best way I have found, is to go to your local hardware store and get the SCOTTS brand lawn care. Out right now is a pamphlet with the schedule to follow. Follow it to the tee, and you will be heading in the right direction. There are five people on my block that do it, and they all have beautiful lawns. If you are looking for help with gardens and planting, the best thing you can do is spend a couple hours with somebody at a local nursery. Not Home depot or Lowes, a local nursery will be much more helpful with planting schedules, color schemes and blooming sequences.

I agree with mattzcoz. Get to know this lady. She will be tickled to give advice. You can be an influence for peace by refusing to listen or participate in gossip. Encourage the expression of truth, not hearsay, and not if it does no good to anyone.
Start studying gardening through magazines, library books, maybe there is a gardening club?
You will need to analyze what kind of garden you want, what kind of soil and climate you have, how much time you want to spend on upkeep. I f your neighbor is an avid gardener, she may enjoy dividing her plants and giving some to you.

Roll around in the yard and crawl under the house making sure that your head comes in contact with spider webbs and you might add some dead insects to your hair. Then after you've rolled around til you get really filthy, adding some dead insects to your hair, go over and meet your neighbor. Cut a nice fart and introduce yourself and ask for pointers about how she keeps her yard looking so nice!
She'll think she looks beutiful in contrast to you, and be very helpful about hints to make your yard look prettier. She'll also pity you and stop gossiping about you!

I wish you would listen to yourself talk. You are trying to put down this woman but she seems to be a better person than you, and your ENVY is coming across by a mile. You say she doesn't know you, so how come you know her so much?

draw up a simply plan that appeals to you and start work. Think water smart so your yard doesnt need much water. Or you could use ROUNDUP (poision) on her yard and make it all die
