The A40 is just as direct and a lot safer for walking

Pedestrians are banned from all UK motorways.

If there is a large group of you doing a sponsored walk, then you will need police consent for each Police Authority through which you intend to pass. The Police have the power to refuse you to use any road that they deem unsuitable.

The Highway Code does not allow pedestrians onto motorways. Perthaps the people of London and Oxford would let you close it down for a day whilst you do the walk...if you ask nicely !
