RE:
Any sources for discontinued kitchen worktops?
I need to replace a damaged piece of kitchen worktop. It was bought at B&Q but they no longer carry this pattern. Where can I look to try and find a piece? Is there a service out there for this kind of thing? (It has to match other pieces... and no I don't want to replace the whole kitchen if I...

As an interior designer, I would agree with most of the previous answers: high gloss will show damage more. Matt is a safer and more practical option, and looks very attractive. I suspect that if you're interested in the gloss worktops you may already have gloss finish on the cupboards. If this is the case, a matt worktop would be a better idea on a design and practical level. A matt surface would frame and emphasize the gloss cupboards, whereas a glossy counter would be too much of a good thing.

If you are able to look underneath the countertop with a flashlight, you will find printed in black, the manufacturer, date, and color/pattern number of the countertop. Armed with this info you can look in the phonebook for local countertop suppliers, and you can ask them if they have any pieces leftover with the noted info. Chances are you will have to contact a few C/T builders but usually one of them will have a piece. You will also have to note that the color and pattern match will not be exaxt because there is many different dye lots as is the same with any other sheet products. If you do find one, the difference will be minimal and most people will not be able to tell.
Good Luck Mate!

Find out from B&Q who the manufacturer was. Contact the manufacturer, hopefully with the pattern name or number or at least enough of a description so they will know what you are talking about. Ask if they still make this patten. If they do you are all set. If they don't ask which stores or distribution centers might still have some pieces of this pattern.

The big box stores, Lowes-Home Depot-Menards,etc have many samples of laminates from both Wilsonart, and Formica, just two of the popular brands. Most major cities have a local counter top maker. If you cannot find it in the directory.....call a 'cabinet maker' in town, and ask who makes countertops. Explain your situation and they will likely help you. Otherwise back to the big box, and they should be able to handle it through their custom tops guy.

Is it discontinued or just not sold at B&Q anylonger.
Discontinued simply means it's not produced anymore and not available. Consider installing a recessed cutting board to eliminate the flaw. They come in several sizes and have a stainless steel frame.
