how many people would feel uncomfortable knowing that your co-worker is gay? i am gay, and i think the only gay person at work. i haven't told anyone that i am gay, but i'm not scared of telling either.i dont act really straight or really gay, i'm somewhere in the middle. i am really close and good friends with all of my co-workers especially the guys who are straight, i don't look at them in a sexual way, but idk if i should say anything because i dont want them to act different around me.

Well, on one hand, you want to be open and true to yourself. On the other hand, you want folks to remember a little more about you, than only your sexuality.

So letting folks get to know you, and then casually but proudly revealing who you are seems the best method.

Either way, folks at the company water fountain are still going to refer to you as 'Frank, the gay guy' since nicknames and steretypes are human nature. This probably nothing anyone can do about this.

In my experience in sales, gay men are really good in that field because the customer can relate to them and like them a little better. Mainly because gay guys take more pride in there appearance and a good appearance as physical, dress, and etc it is easier for the customer to speak to them; and they seem to have a better attitude. Also gay men are generally easy to work with because there more caring of other co-workers and also customers. And in most cases they seem to be more trustworthy then your usual men.

Now the only problem I have had with gay men in the at work, is when you get those whoa re REALLY feminine, they can get really cared away and start acting inappropriate. Also they can get pretty bitchy at times and some cases more then your regular men. Also there not as dependable when you need someone with well basically balls.

So, there are some pros and cons with gay men. And they have the same amount of pros and cons as any other person on the job. But they also have many advantages in some areas. I am a support gay men in the work force. If your not use to being around gay men then yes it may be uncomfortable at first, but just like anyone else if you give it time you may like them.

Unless your sexual orientation could somehow be relevant to your employment (teacher, counselor, child-care worker, sex therapist, etc) I don't think it would be wise to make the connection or announcement to your coworkers. As the saying goes, "A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing."

Unless you are planning to make these people a more significant part of your personal life (such as inviting them to your home or sharing hotel accommodations during a business trip) it would probably be best to maintain a boundary between your professional and personal life.

If a person doesn't have an opportunity to know you on a personal level, don't assume they will readily accept the fact that you are gay. That information could hinder you professionally if some employer or supervisor turned out to be a closeted homophobe.

I have had plenty of coworkers, and plenty of friends who are gay. I know sometimes guys can be weird about it, but generally people are fine with it. If you are close friends already, then I am sure it will be fine. You may get one or two who feel they have to express their opposition to being gay, but I have seen too many gay guys at my places of work who are fine, so I doubt much more would happen.

I'm gay so of course i don't care about anybody else being gay. I do work around other gay people but most are closeted. It's one that denies he's gay but he's so obvious that i don't even know why he does that. But whatever!

Do as you wish, but my opinon is that co-workers could really care less about someone's sexuality. I wouldn't say anything.
