To become a solicitor in your position:

1 Do a access course at college which allows you to study law at university.

2 Go to university and study law: LLB (HONS) Make sure you get at least 2:2 or better.

3 Apply to the law society to be enrolled on the list.

4 Apply to do your LPC

5 Find a training contract... lasts 2 years

6 Your a solicitor!

P.S: My university friends are solicitors now.

There are three paths to becoming a solicitor.

1) You must have a 2:1 qualifying law degree that means a LLB (Hons) usually 3 years. You then must do an LPC for a year. Then gain a training contract (r. r. hard) from a solicitor firm)

2) Do a degree in any discipline i.e. History. Then you MUST do a conversion course for a year, this is called a Graduate Diploma in Law. Finally then you must do an LPC for a year. Then gain a training contract (r. r. hard) from a solicitor firm).

3) The legal executive route. Where you don't necessarily need to do a law degree and you're earning whilst your learning.

Check out the link under the sources bit, it contains an article on The Times on the third Option.

If the link doesn't work, go on The Times website - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/... Then click on Business, then Law , then student law. Then locate the article on the third way.

Remember in order to do the LLB (the qualifying law degree, if you do a BA then you'll have to do the conversion course after that, which ive heard is brutal because you cram 3 years of law into one year - try and avoid) as a mature student you might just have to sit an entrance exam to get into Uni.

Well, you need to study for a degree in one of the disciplines of law.

The Open University would be your best starting point, but below are some other useful links as well.

Studying part time (evenings and weekends) you are looking at around 5 years at least.

Hope that helps, good luck
