Because they are normal. They do not get involved in matters that do not involve them. They are concerned about their own country and act with dignity and respect, unlike the average american

Something must be terribly wrong with the American school system.
I'm Canadian and I can tell you without the shadow of a doubt that Dublin is in... Southern Germany?
Only kidding!
(I feel pretty confident that Dublin is in The Republic of Ireland, duh!)
Some (ignorant & ill-educated) foreigners might be confusing Dublin with Berlin, for some weird & wonderful reason, but who knows for sure?
No seriously, I think Europeans respect Canadians more than Americans because they resent the fact that Americans like to play world police, which doesn't sit well with a lot of non-American folks.
Personally, as a Canadian citizen, I have absolutely nothing against Americans per say; my boyfriend is American & I love him deeply and with a heart full of everlasting affection & devotion!
So there buddy...
Does this answer your question?
I sure hope so cuz I gotta answer another one now...
Take it easy!

Okay, I'm American and I know where the fukc Dublin is. We're not all morons. But, I can't believe you're stereotyping an entire country based on it's tourists. Only 20% of the population has a passport, how many of them do you think went to Europe for you to see? I've been to many foreign countries and even I am embarrassed by the American tourists and their ignorance. They're not our best sample. I've also seen more than my fair share of idiotic Canadians Virtually all Canadians feel that the US would collapse if not for Canada and claim Americans are ignorant because they never heard that Canada burned down the White House in the war of 1812 (it wasn't painted white until after it was burned down and Canada wasn't even a country until 1870. We say the British did it.)
I like Canada, but one reason people respect it more is because they know nothing about it. It's impossible for the US to keep secrets because everyone is always digging for dirt, while no one cares about Canada. For a case and point, tell me who the Prime Minister of Canada is and why his recent remarks on Quebec where deemed contraversial. Don't judge Americans by tourists and I will agree not to judge Ireland by you. (Thankfully, I have Irish friends and they're not too bad)

I cant believe I am going to respond to this -Because they did'nt create the united nations -they are not the largest economy in the world - they do not stand up and shout evil when they see it - they do not send enormous amounts of money and resources around the world to aid other countries -they do not choose sides or make any difficult decisions -They arent in a war to stop nuclear proliferation - terrorists - human rights violations- keeping countries in turmoil calm -protecting countries who were unjustifiably attacked - these were the things we were doing before Bush Unfortunately he has made us look like hypocrites and has given the devil"s advocats stronger voices where people are now listening with open ears and hearts . I think maybe the US should take a more Isolationist approach like the canadians but would the world really be better offf without Americans?

I think the education system is the biggest factor. In Canada we are taught the world does not end at our borders and shores. We have adapted the theory that we are not only citizens of our country but a world citizen as well. Then you add in the fact that most of our ancestors are European in some way shape and form and here we do not expect assimilation like the US, we are all very much into our past still embrace much of our old world ways. This is a big reason why Canada is such a popular place to immigrate to. The US is melting pot and water and stir instant American, we are more like a tossed salad, many different flavours blending well and complimenting each other.
Rooster is a fine example of the lack of education in the US. Canada was a founding member of the UN. We sends scads of money to 3rd world nations. We are fighting in Afghanistan. We are the US's largest trading partner, supply you with electricty, fresh water and oil. Also it was Canadians who blew the whistle on Rwanda and their crisis. Thank you for proving my point Rooster.

As citizen's of the USA, we understand that are friends and allies fear us just like everyone else. We also understand that fear often turns to hate. We are isolationists at heart. Most Americans (USA) do not care for international policy. We sincerely hope for our friends do well but are content to let Canadians be Canadians and the Irish be the Irish. Most people mistake this contentment for stupidity. We hold no ill-will to the world . . . we are just uninterested in having an international pissing contest over the names and locations of major foreign cities.

About the Geography aspect, it's because in schools in America I've heard that they focus more on places and states IN AMERICA- and less on the world. Probably adds to the 'self obsession' of Americans.
