I am not sure what you mean by "had a crab mentality".
Do you mean why are they crabby?
Or do you mean why do they behave as crabs?
It is easy to be crabby in this world. Just look around. Turn on the news. That is enough to make anyone crabby.
As far as behaving as crabs, scuttling around, darting here and there, snapping at anyone that gets close to them, I can see that, also. It is a dangerous, scary world out there. So few you can actually trust and the only place to hide is in your own little shell. You can burrow down into the sand, but it only protects you until the tide comes to sweep you off into the ocean.

Insecure, hateful, immature, narcissistic, reprobate, abject, perverted, these are some of the reasons for Crab In Barrel mentality.
