So, on the way back home today, on the subway, I had nothing else better to do, and so I made up this joke...

There was this enveleope, once, see. It was a medium sized envelope... Well, no it was a little small. Not really small, but just kind of... well, small-ish. And it was a light brown color. Not really brown, actually, more yellow than brown. Sort of yellow-ish, you could say. And it had a long address written on it. Maybe four or five lines long. Not exceedingly long, but, that's right...long-ish.

So the envelope turns to the other envelope at a party and says: "Call me -Ish- Mail."

Funny, or should I just read the newspaper on the subway?

The punchline isn't bad. The setup could use some work. You can use the whole "smallish, yellowish" thing without waffling on the size and color. I actually think it'd be funny if the envelope were describing himself, maybe in a personal ad or something: "Smallish, yellowish, longish envelope looking for SWS. Won't give out my name over the phone; just call me Ish-mail."
As pedantic as this answer is, a joke's ha-ha factor really is all in the delivery. A punning stunchline alone isn't going to get people rolling in the aisles.

I thought you were butchering the joke at first. If you said it to me on the subway, I'd think you were butchering it again. And it wasn't a laugh-until-I-pee joke. But it was a bit more intelligent than watching the Jackass movies. For that, I give you kudos. Put the paper down.

If you can add other similar jokes (not necessarily envelope jokes, but that could work too) to put before this one, you could be the life of the party. But it can't be the first one because people would tune out after your apparent butchering.

Don't give up. If you deliver it with confidence you might get a phone number. Try doing that while reading the New York Times like every other drone on the train.

Good premise, but the envelope turning to another envelope at a party bit? That's wacked.

Very clever, but didn't exactly make me laugh. However, I'm sure if I was on the subway and somebody said that joke I would have chuckled. It's all in the delivery...

Not funny to me, leaves me scratching my head. You might try again. But keep the paper handy just in case.

It's kind of funny if you have a very patient, very literate mobydickish audience. But if I were you I'd keep my day job.
