Yes I suppose sexist, but I think a lot of studies regarding Physiology and Sociology are based around men, and male issues. So I think that having women's studies in great. Plus if you want to know to know what is going on in a woman's mind...you can come to this section x

In many 'primitive' societies, including those of Judaism, which became the birth place for christianity, a matriarcal rule dominated.
Women, before the advent of a patriarchal and more martially oriented societal structure, were entrusted with leadership because of their inherent penchant for peace-keeping, networking, and potentializing individual contributions into a working 'whole'.
Religion is mostly responsible for relegating women into an inferior role, even one of 'causing the downfall of humanity', and this attitude has been fostered for near 2000 years.
Hence, not only has the role of women as decision-makers been suppressed (to the detriment of the planet as a whole), but women have been subjected to slavery-like conditions and suggested into roles that either totally neglect their inherent intelligence or asking them to act as 'objects' rather than as persons.
For men, this oppression did not happen in the same way, although men also suffered from the diminishment of their 'female counterparts'.
"Woman Studies" are a good beginning at equalizing the balance once again.
It is a balance, not a war!
It is necessary to realize that 'woman' is as essential to existence as 'man' is, just as it is necessary to acknowledge and honor the functions of both hemispheres in the human brain.
The 'female side' has been neglected and needs extra attention.
For that matter, and to address your question, there ARE mens studies as well. There are men's groups and men's movements, and all these are good.
As good as are the women's.

There is no such academic discipline called "men's studies," which is why it's not well-known.

The reason there is no such academic discipline called "men's studies" is because men have not started one.

There are "men's rights activists," but they would never be accepted in a formal academic environment because

a) their teachings, quite simply, are not academic
b) their principles are based on sexist ideas

Therefore, it is not a respected discipline.

Women's studies, on the other hand, is a respected academic discipline. It is taught in most universities and actually studies "gender" - both female and male - in a variety of contexts. The reason it is called "women's studies" or "feminism" is because a) women started the movement, and b) most negative consequences of "gender" have affected women.

So no, Tanks, I am not claiming that women need "extra attention" because we've been left out of history. Women's studies isn't even about studying females in history, though I'm sure you can take a course on women in history, but that would probably be considered a history course. I am claiming that no men's studies program exists, and therefore is not a section on Yahoo Answers, because MEN HAVE NOT CREATED ONE.

And the right-wing "men's rights" groups certainly don't count. They're not respected because for the most part, they are bigots. Like you.

You will never, ever see right-wing "men's rights" studies at a university. No person with half a brain, let alone a Ph.D, would allow it.

I agree with you completely. We have to get past the generalizations and bs and polarization that the sexes are dealing with today. We also need to push a new form of Feminism. I am tired of titles... first wave feminist, feminazi, ecofeminist, blah blah blahhh. They all divide men from women!

I grew up in the era that bought the feminist lie that men and women are identical. In our culture, women are encouraged to do everything men do, and vice versa. I believe in equal opportunity but I mistook "equal" with "identical", and this retarded my personal development by 30+ years. I doubt if I am alone.

I propose feminism of equal value! This feminism is based on respect of the opposite gender, and a little bit of mystery between them both. Under this feminism, men and women are of equal value. However, we understand that in the home, they each have different but complementary roles.

This means if they teach communist oriented classes on Feminism, they should do so for men.

However, Feminism has caused us so much trouble I think it should be taught as ancient history.

It hasn't hit us yet but eventually feminism will be recognized for what it is: a virulently anti social, anti-feminine, anti heterosexual ideology that has achieved extraordinary power by pretending to champion women's rights. By thus fooling society, they have been able to enact policies which emasculate men and encourage women to become masculine and/or sluttish. In other words, women have usurped the masculine identity, and in the process, both sexes have lost their own. Throw in homosexual confusion and you are well on your way.

The destruction of heterosexuality is the stated goal of feminists who believe gender difference is not only unnatural but also the source of all injustice. Most people don't realize that the current feminist movement is a living anachronism from the cold war and the Marxist revolutionary sixties. Most of the leading feminist thinkers, including Betty Friedan and Simone de Beauvoir, have been Marxists, and many have also been lesbians.

But they would not have succeeded if they had been up front about their bizarre revolutionary goal, which is to coerce heterosexuals into the closet. In this light, terms like "sexism," "political correctness," and "sexual harassment," take on new meaning.

Feminism is about power not choice. "No women should be authorized to stay at home and raise her children," said feminist founder Simone de Beauvoir. "Women should not have that choice, because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one"

If feminism were really about choices, it would not indoctrinate women to enter the work force and become "independent." It would not demonize men and heterosexual love while glorifying same sex relationships.

Feminism is essentially a lesbian movement in the sense that lesbians have always been women who coveted the male role. It is based on Marxist notions of "equality" and class conflict that have been discredited and rejected, notions that have no relevance to a mystical reality such as love.

I personlly think it is. I also feel that the process of freeing women will not be complete until men free themselves form the gender image of 'man'

It is not to become a sloppy lipm wrist but to descover their real self. So much damage is done by men trying to be Rambo or Bond or what ever

No it isn't. The point is, everything in history and established social structures is governed primarily from a male perspective by default. Women's studies address that imbalance.
Try going to a women's studies class: you will find there is nothing sexist about it; it's about analysing accepted norms with logic, as well as lateral thinking.

Of course it is,but feminists are female chauvinist pigs.Do you see any of them spending money on men, despite the fact they now make the same money? Will they now buy us a diamond ring? Will men ever get the house, kids and alimony? Will women ever lay down their lives at war to defend our rights aka draft? They are blind hypocrites with an excuse why it always some man's fault but never theirs. They want all the benifits of being a man but are too gutless to take our responsibilites.ON 9/11 ,200 men rushed into those towers to save lives, not one single woman did.Shame on you selfish creatures. Now make reperations, sign up for the draft and pay back all that money, women have stolen from men.You will pay for all the dating, the ring, the wedding and the honeymoon. And when the divorce comes,he gets the house, the kids and you pay alimony.Equal rights? You don't have the guts!Everything you see, touch, smell, taste and feel was invented by men.Yet these total hypocrites claim to be smarter. We fought the wars,we invented it,we instilled the laws(giving them rights they would never give us) and we pay for everything.Make fun of men?Who is selfish?Who is vain?Who is too cheap to spend on the opposite sex?Who defended womens lives, laying down their own?

Womens studies:gossip, whine, complain, blame men and then make sexist statements about men showing who the real chauvinist pig is,the woman.Get ready for malenism, men are pissed and now your turn is coming! You think you know men,but you know nothing about us.And just like in Babylon, when the men turn on the women,as we now justly will,it is over.Ever since feminism came, society has become worse and worse.Drugs, suicide, murder, rape, violence by women against other women and boys, abortions, divorce.Women are msarter than men?You cant even name anything women do better.Cooking? All the top chiefs are men.You cling to cliches you know are lies because the truth is you are selfish, empty and too weak to face the truth.
Get ready for Malenism. For 40 years you have blamed men who have done you no wrong. The truth is the collapse of our society is upon us and you will be seen as the true culprits. You are hypocrites and blame little boys just because of what dangles between their legs. That is the most foul form of racism. And your sons will pay for that.
