Not only have I read of happy owners devistated by their pet suddenly killing a family member, but I have seen some of these sadistic owners terrorize kids and neighbors by setting their pit bulls free for half an hour. They call them home before animal control shows up. One particular owner sat and laughed as his dog savaged a cat to death. Animal control judged that the animal needed to be collected then destroyed. So he gave them another pit bull to kill, and kept the real killer alive. Animal control would not listen to the neighbors, yet the pet owner finally got tired of them and moved. To me, we only gave someone else a proven killer. What do you think?

No!!! pit bulls are grate pets and they are so cute and loving..they can be dangerous if mistreated like any other animal....its the people who raise them that make them aggressive maybe they should be care full of who these pets are given to ...... but I think maybe extremly agressive pitbulls, who have careless owners, should be best put to sleep before anyone gets hurt or killed unfortunatly :( ...and the owner/s should be fined and sent to jail

Check out the American Temperament Test Society (http://www.atts.org) in which you will notice that pit bulls scored higher than golden retrievers, beagles and other "good" breeds. To say that ALL pit bulls are vicious is ignorant. In fact, pit bulls were bred to be non-human aggressive because while fighting in the pits, owners had to pull the dogs apart without being bit themselves. Any dog that showed human aggression was not bred again because they would be too difficult to handle. Do your research before giving into the media hype.

PS. People who own pit bulls are not necessarily getting an ego boost. Well raised and socialized pits (or any other breed for that matter) can make great, loyal, and loving pets for the RIGHT owner. They aren't for everyone, but many say that after owning a pit bull, they would never own another breed of dog again. Punish the deed, not the breed. Please, educate yourselves before believing the stereotypes. In the 90s, rotties were the "evil" breed. Remember, Petey from the Little Rascals was a Pit Bull!!

The killer is that owner, not the pit bull. He is using that dog as a weapon. He trained the dog to be aggressive. Pit bulls, or any dog breed, is not naturally aggressive. Any dog can be raised to be aggressive, and any dog can be raised by to a loving family companion. When a dog is aggressive there is always a reason for it. The reason this dog is aggressive is obvious. This owner trained the dog to be aggressive and it using it as a weapon. I own a pit bull, I know to NEVER let her off leash if she is not in a complete fenced in area. My dog loves everyone, kids, adults, dogs, cats. But because she is a strong dog, I would NEVER want anything to happen, so she is always restrained. And also, anyone who owns a pit bull SHOULD be aware that they can sometimes be dog aggressive, especially if not properly socialized and trained from a young age.

Reasons dogs can become aggressive: Some people train their dog to be aggressive, some people abuse their dog. Some neglect their dog so it gets NO socialization with people and other animals, so it becomes aggresssive. And some people who are not bad people, and don't neglect or abuse their dog, but they don't train or socialize their dog. Then when it meets another dog or person, they wonder why it is aggressive. And then there are the people who neglect the fact that their dog IS aggressive. I was attacked by a GOLDEN RETRIEVER who left scars on my face. After this dog attacked me, the owner said that he has done this before, but neglected to tell me, and also neglected to correct the problem. She just let the dog run around, knowing it was aggressive. And my brother has a vicious dachshund. This little dog will go after ANYONE! My brother knew this dog was mean, but his thoughts were "She is too small to do any damage." or "She is just bluffing." That was until the dog bit a small child on the lip, and made her bleed. AND Sadie bit my PIT BULL on the nose. Sadie is lucky that my pit bull was properly raised, and she just backed away. Now my 50 pound dog is affraid of Sadie, who is 8 pounds.

So back to pit bulls being aggressive, they are not by nature. I have worked with dogs all of my life, and I have met Hundreds of sweet pit bulls. They are my favorite breed of dog, completely misunderstood. People abuse pit bulls and use them for fighting, and bad owners who want an aggressive dog often choose pit bulls, rottweilers, dobermans because they are indimiating strong dogs. But this does not mean that this is a bad breed, or aggressive by nature. A dog's temperment depends on how it is raised by it's owners.

This particular dog should be euthanized, and the owner should be put in jail for using it as a weapon. But not ALL pit bulls should be euthanized. I would be devistated if my pet had to be destroyed because of ignorant people like the owner you talk about, and the ignorant people who judge an entire dog breed on the few that are abused and not properly raised.

Pit Bulls can make good pets if they are trained properly as they grow from pups. I don't think they should all be killed, except in cases where they have attacked someone. I definitely feel that Pit Bull breeding should be strictly controlled, and moreso, some of the OWNERS of aggressive Pit Bulls should be killed.

It's a sad thing when I can go into any of the animal shelters in Las Vegas, and over 50% of the dogs in them are pit bulls. I'm sure this is true in many other metro area shelters as well.

I agree. These people that own these pitts just strutting around--ego--it's like a time bomb. In response to the gentleman from Las Vegas, around here (New York, Connecticut) 80% of shelter animals are pitts or pitt mix. No one is going to adopt them. Maybe just idiots who don't care what their past is, probably fighting. That's the whole point! To promote fear. Check out Animal Cops on Animal Planet, mostly all problems these people have are with that breed. They take the time to try and socialize the animal before determining if they are "adoptable" or not. About 100% are put down. Sad for the dog, the bad rap they get is not their fault, but their so - called owners', who should get serious fines and jail time for animal neglect and cruelty, and being a danger to the public. You want a dog just to be vicious, then keep it in your own house and have it bite one of your own family, then tell us how "loving" they are...."they never bit before," "I don't know what happened" - what if it was a kid and they got bit in the face or worse? If you want a loving dog, get a Golden. Why take a chance? Selfish, stupid humans.

If this guy is real and your description is accurate, he should be in prison! I'm pretty sure a lot of pitbull attacks on thier own owners are caused by neglect, IMO a pit is not a dog you can leave tied up in your back yard. They're absolutely sweet but they need to be a part of the family, inside and they need to be socialized. I walk my pit regularly so she isn't frightened like when a neighborhood kid broke into our backyard with her chihuahua! You can imagine it scared the crap out of us! She wasn't raised around children and doesn't understand them, although we've had my grandmas greatgrandkids over a little. Our pit always sleeps with a family member. I know she's spoiled but the result is a perfectly behaved dog. That kid even left our gate open and she didn't run around the neighborhood, she went back into the house through her dog door. She would never run away. She never tears anything up and always minds and is genetically fortunate because she'd or stink.

Its not right what the guy did , but as you can see it goes to show you half the time it is the owners of the dog .
I no people that have pit bulls , and I love them both . It is how the owner trains them most of the time .
People have to admit , half the time its the owners , just watch "Dog Whisper " everyone would learn alot .
We just have a nature to baby our pets , and dogs are dogs ,we love them ,but treat them as a dog .They have to no you are the authority , and your there owner , what you says goes.
If you ask me , some of these little dogs have a bad bite too .
These toy terrier and alot of the little ones , dont no how to play , they use there teeth with other dogs . When a dog is playing with another dog there teeth should not be part of that playing , like I said watch " Dog Whisper ".

I agree with you 100%, I just don't think it's the animal that should be put down, at least, not the 4 legged one. The breed should be discontinued, and until that happens only responsible people should be allowed to own them. Certain breeds especially pits should never be around children or at large without a muzzle. Violation of this should carry a very heavy fine and in the event of an attack, the owner should be prosecuted to the full extent with possible prison terms.

The problem may take care of itself. In the USA I would be very afraid in court if I had a pitbull and it bit anyone. I have seen a pitbull and they scare me because once you get them excited they do not stop even if you beat them. I talked to a petshow judge asking about the breed and was told the pitbull was bred to be vicious as a fault of the breeders so they made it more aggressive. I have owned rottweillers and those dogs tend to me mellow but still if idiots train them to be mean they will get you.

They are not cute. They are bread to fifght to the death.

Any person that has or wants one has a real attitude problem. Any pit bull that harms any person or other animal should be killed and the owner put in jail charged just as though it were him or her that did the deed. Assult with a deadly weapon would be the very least of charges.

You that have them are putting yourself and others at risk for no reason other thn a misguided ego and a lot of ignorance.
