I can only find them in USA and would rather not have to pay import taxes etc. If I'm unable to buy one in the UK, does anyone know how to build a JTAG to USB cable?

An FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) is a type of Programmable Logic Device (PLD). It is used to design ASIC's before they are hardwired, an FPGA can be reprogrammed repeatedly. The JTAG cable is used to programme the development board, its not used for debugging. The cable has 6 pins and can be seen at the link below:

where do you live?

you don't pay import tax on cables,,,,,

and $1.90 = 1 uk pound so if the price is $10.00 you will pay 5.50 pounds plus shipping (postage)

please specify what the jtag is needed for, and what is a FPGA device...
