Do you believe that some humans can actually be totally void of a conscience? If so, do you think it's a learned behavior, genetic, or a combination of both factors?

I believe it is a learned behavior as nobody is born without a conscience. Probably from reading about hitler or other evil notables in history would cause someone to eventually make themselves void of a conscience. although there are 'evil children' children still show mostly innocent/ good behavior until they learn from movies/video games.
hope this helps.

I absolutely think some humans are void of a conscience. All I have to do is to think about some of the past serial killers and it is obvious that these people have something missing. I have watched many interviews with Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson, etc and none of them felt bad about what they did, only that they got caught. I think they have some chemical problem in their brain or something missing up there that has to do with conscience. It is scary that there are people like that out there in our world.

A conscience is by definition a social construct. It is a sense of morallity which imposes via the superego unto your consciecness the idea of right and wrong. There is no abstract morallity therefore the idea of a consciencess is social in essence. I believe you were thinking of a sociopath with is rather deviod of empathy which is a genetic trait.

It's called being a sociopath.
And Niks, your friend sounds depressed. In his case instead of moping about he numbs himself to all feelings and thinks that if he acts like he has no conscience the pain will go away, he needs help.

Yes but I think it is more learned behavior than genetic.

My friend claims to have no conscience.
But he does really, it's just when you ignore it and push it away for so long it probably dosent affect you as more, or at all.

i believe that there are people like that. they were not born like this, but life turned them to what they are now. well, maybe not life alone, but also some wrong choices they made along the way. this situation is derived from dipression and helplessness.
