Another way I found to help with heavy flow with my period is to increase my iron levels during that time by eating things like spinach, raisins, peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course). I also found that by doing that I had some ease of the cramping I would get during that time.
And as for what to do if you forget to bring pads with you and you have discovered that you started is try to get some paper towel to put there til you can get a pad. Sometimes in public places like gas stations for example they may have a machine where you can buy a pad.
I don't know if you are still in school or not but if you are another thing you can do is to go to the nurse's office to see if they have any pads.
As for not knowing I had that happen one time where I actually forgot that my period was coming because I had very few symptoms and it wasn't til I got home from wherever I was that I noticed a bit of spotting.
As for being embarrassed to ask this I thought you were very courageous. Pls talk to your mom about your concern as well, and if the flow is so heavy that you are having to change pads every hour it needs to be evaluated by a dr.

It seems you are very worried. I don't think you will forget because you are so worried. However, there is always a school nurse, friend who can help you out if you do forget. There is no fool proof way to prevent leakage 100%. You can refresh your protection (tampon/pad) frequently to prevent most leaks. Also, use the appropriate product for your flow. If you have a heavy flow, use the product designed for this. BTW, if you have a light flow do not use tampons for a heavy flow - there is increased risk of toxic shock syndrome. Try to understand that almost all women experience a menstrual cycle - it is a natural part of life which prepares your body for the next stage of a woman's life - bearing children. Accept that what is happening is a sign of your maturing & you are meeting this stage by informing yourself how best to deal with it by asking these questions. I would say you will be just fine because you will ask the questions you need answered. Peace.

Don't worry! Keep a pad with u whenever possible in ur purse or bag. U'll know if ur gna get ur period. There's a sorta restless feeling dat comes in the stomach n around the genital area. Also, don't worry about leakage, have a silky dry pad for heavy flow, or u cud use two pads(longer ones) at one time. that will offer maximum coverage since it ill cover all the area. During heavy flow, use two pads if possible. Change ur pads in the evening n take care of proper cleanlines.. N calm down, nothing to worry about. It's normal! Ask ur gynecologist for more details or even ur mom! Gud luck! Ur gna become a woman soon!

Always keep some emergency pad/tampons in your backpack. Look for the signs that your period is on its way: backache, breaking out in pimples, cravings for junk food, cramps in the lower part of your tummy, breasts feeling swollen and sore. There really isn't a good way to prevent from leakage other than changing your pads frequently or start using tampons. Also, when you think your period is on its way, wear darker pants and bring a long shirt/jacket that can cover your butt.

I remember being terrified and my father was the only parent home at the time. You really need to laugh a little, this is natural.Relax, find a person YOU CAN TRUST. A WOMAN. If your mother loves you she would be hurt if you don't go to her.
