My hamster was lying on her back this morning, I tapped the cage and she started twitching but then i went back to check 30 mins later and she didnt twitch, Ive heard conflicting things on hibernation, how can I check if she's actually dead? (plus the past week, she's been very sleepy and has put on alot of weight)

My daughter had a similar thing happen with a gerbil. It had got cold and went into shut down mode. We brought it out of the cage and placed it on a covered, warm hot water bottle and he came around.
Maybe this is the problem, you won't lose anything by trying. Other than that run it round to the vet

I just lost a hamster to old age on December 16, 2006. She was 2 years and 2 months. they don't live very long. 2 years is about it. How old is your hamster?

Definitely don't bury her yet. I had a hamster that did that to me too. As long as she's not stiff, she's not dead. I don't know why they do that though.
