Bacterial vaginosis isn't a yeast infection. It's inflammation caused by bacteria. You should go back to your doctor and let him know that the treatment didn't work. You may be given another course of metronidazole, or you may be given another antibiotic.

There are also things you need to make sure you do. You need to take the medication exactly as it's prescribed. Try not to skip doses, take them at the same time everyday, and keep taking it until all the medication is gone. Sometimes people either stop or start skipping doses when they start to feel better. That often causes symptoms to eventually return. Antibiotics need to reach a certain level in the blood stream, and stay that way, for a prescribed amount of time. If you let the levels drop, bacteria has a chance to start reproducing again. Only this time they've been inoculated against your antibiotic, and can be more difficult to treat.

You might also want to consider how you got it. Is it something that you're continuing to do? The genitals need to be cleaned daily, even if you skip a shower. Hands should be clean when touching. That includes yours and any sexual partner's. If you have a sex partner, you might need to look at his hygiene. NOTHING that touches the anus should ever be place in or on your vagina. You might already know that, but there are a lot of people who don't. If you're sexually active, insist on condoms... at least until the problem is resolved. Your problem may not be that the medication didn't work. Maybe you just caught it again.

A health care provider can prescribe an antibiotic to treat bacterial vaginosis. The medication will bring the level of bacteria in the vagina back into a healthy range. There are no over-the-counter treatments for bacterial vaginosis.

nothing besides antibiotics will help with this bacterial infection trust me i have had it and i know it sucks, acidophillus might help out a bit with the symptoms but it will not cure the infection, tea tree oil won't do anything and neither will yogurt ect...
Try talking to your doctor about keyflex that is what my doctor gave me when i had it and it cured up within 4 days. It has been a year since i have had it and it has not returned, thank god!

Swallowing acidophillus tablets is no use at all, as they are just broken down in the bowel.

Try this, every month buy a small tub of LIVE natural yogurt. Put it in the fridge and make sure everyone knows it is yours! Twice a day, during your period dip a fresh tampon in the yogurt and insert it in the usual way.

Live yogurt contains lactobacilli, these are the same organism that should be protecting your vagina agaist other infection.

Ask your dr what they think about having you try boric acid thru douching (sometimes there is a reason to douche). Some of the ladies on one of the yahoogroups I'm on for vulvodynia will sometimes use the boric acid to help control BV. For some of them they find that it actually works. You could also try using baking soda too if the dr says ok.

As for acidophillous that is good for helping to promote the good bacteria that our digestive system needs to stay healthy but never heard that it was good for helping BV.

But pls get back in touch with your dr to let them know what is going on.
