A free-air subwoofer is one that can be used without a subwoofer box.

Most subwoofers need to be installed into some kind of enclosure of a calculated size. The air volume inside the box creates a "spring" of air pressure that helps keep the speaker under control so it doesn't tear apart when playing at high power. The manufacturer takes the enclosure into account in the subwoofer power rating.

A free-air sub has a stiffer suspension so it can handle high power without the air pressure of the box. It's common for them to be installed into the rear parcel shelf of the vehicle, or into a wall built behind the back seat. You still need a "baffle" for the subwoofer, that seals the back of the sub away from the front of the sub.

If you're installing a free-air sub it doesn't matter which direction the speaker is facing. If you're talking about a subwoofer in an enclosure, it might sound better facing the rear or the front, depending on the car.

Well we all paid for sports packages on sky to get sport! Then the greedy pigs brought in extra channels for which you had to pay more - very annoying!, now we have Setanta. No one wants to subscribe to setanta or pay for extra channels as we already pay a fortune for Sky sports.which were described as the full sports package. I think the games should be split between Terrestrial TV and the sky sports channels. This is only fair and this is what we paid for. At the moment we are all watching live streaming of the games - why the hell would we want to pay again - its not fair.
