Wow. What a very broad question. That's good, though, because it invites its own narrowed-down topic. The most significant challenge I can see right now is immigration. Of course, mexicans lead the charge, but there are over 350,000 illegal Irish immigrants; 215,000 illegal Russian immigrants; 125,000 illegal Chinese immigrants- the list goes on. I know we live in politically correct times where one should not speak their mind no matter how right they are, because we don't want to "offend" anyones "sensitive" feelings. However, the economic strain on our natural resources and otherwise is just too high of a price to pay because a bunch of "feel good", illegal immigrant vote seeking politicians and their base want to just, well- feel good. Legitimate Americans are already footing an astronomical tax burden for goods and services, but when you throw the cost of illegal immigration in the mix, as a nation we should probably just file for one huge, collective bankruptcy. The financial balloon is going to go POP!, and only when it does will the perennial feel-"gooders" and those who just refuse to get it-get it. We as a nation always like to believe how intelligent and well meaning we are, but damn- common-sense along WITH intelligence just doesn't seem too common from the office of President right on down to the rest of us. For most of us, though, both are like adding 2+2 and coming up with 4. However, conventional wisdom and math never were a good mix among the lawyers cartel in DC whose speciality is redefining words and phrases beyond all comprehension while drinking their four martini lunches at tax-payer expense. The sad but true reality is that the melting pot has boiled over. No,- it has melted completely in a kaleidoscope of endlessly blurred colors where the hues and tints ultimately turn green- money green.

My country, South Africa, is looking forward to hosting the world soccer in 2010. Our biggest challenge now is reducing the crime rate and we have to contend with the overwhelming threat of being dragged down by our neighbouring country, Zimbabwe, who sadly, is facing their most significant challenge and that is getting rid of the manic thats running the country and it's people into non-exsistence!

Reclaiming our collective conscience.

Difficult to do when people are more interested in so-called "reality" shows and other such tripe than in monitoring what is done in our name and *thinking* about the consequences.
