it stumbles and crumbles everything that comes in its way. it allows us to use its 'chest' for agriculture purposes and give us food to live. contrasting works. isn't it!
i hope/think that this is what the questioner wanted to know. in my opinion the earth works only when there are quakes or something like that. otherwise it is sleeping and allowing us to live in her lap.
