No not unless the short term survival of my whole community wholly depended on it to an extent that it would be wiser to outwardly accept the forcing of such a system on the neighbourhood in order allow a minority opposition to survive and flourish gradually.
Interesting question as it could be seen as analogous to many of the current international issues. In this global community in which we now live how broad a scope does a person's neighbourhood encompass I wonder . Or to put a political slant on things if a western government said the same thing in someones neighbourhood but said you had to accept a western approved form of democracy.

Sharia law is a good a system as any to base your moral code on which is effectively what law is. However in the UK we have a legal system which whilst has its faults works reasonably well. I have no issue with 2 consenting parties using the Shaira, Beth din or whatever to resolve differences between themselves however the law of the nation should have the overriding vote. If Sharia law is the underlying law of the land that I am in, then I would agree to it, however within the UK it is law based on Christianity which is prevalent and as such I would not accept any other legal system, there are other systems available such as pagan in the UK. I have in my life lived oversee's and have allways respected the law of where I am so the answer then must be it depends on where I am!

If Muslims said that in order to have peace in my neighbourhood I would have to accept sharia law, would I?

Well coming down to breakfast and seeing my wife and daughter dressed like a pair of black post boxes would be a little off putting. I might even be driven to go outside and peer through th letter box at them and shout. "There, now you now how it feels."

But I quite like the idea of women being educated and classed as my equal, which comes as a relief, for in truth I was afraid that they would realise that they are my intellectual superiors, and sharia law would not allow them that, or the freedom to look beautiful.

Secondly the question refers to my neighbourhood and not theirs, and I have a natural dislike of inimidation or threats from devotees of a 13th century macho and barbaric religion.

But I would be prepared to compromise, a word that moslems seem unwilling to consider. Shut down your mosques and dress and act like citizens of the UK.

Problem solved - there would be peace.

No. My response to such a suggestion is that if you do not like us and our way of life, buzz off. If you want Sharia Law then go and live in an entirely Muslim country. There are plenty of them, where you can have a hand cut off after being convicted for theft and where a women can be stoned to death when accused of adultery. Public floggings and hangings are commonplace in such countries. Just buzz off - okay!!

Never!!! In this country they should go by our laws not the other way around
plus i dont see how Sharia Law can bring peace!!!
Death by stoning and the removal of limbs for various 'crimes' is hardly peaceful

That sounds like a threat to me and British people do not give in to threats .Lets put it the other way shall we.For there to be true peace in this country everyone should be a Christian and sign an oath of allegiance to the crown.
Now we are getting somewhere.

No, no way, no how, no sir. No. Sharia law is opression. It objectifies women and girls. It makes a mockery of freedom of choice. Nope, no Sharia law here. Besides. I really, REALLY like ham at Christmas.

No! Shariah laws are for Muslims and not for those who are not Muslims. cannot agree to Shariah laws because they are very antiquated and violent - punishment for stealing something like just a miserable loaf of bread is to chop off one's hand and for those caught in adutery, it's death by stoning!!!

So, accept if you want but leave me be!

Thats like saying they would have to believe in Christain beliefs to live in non-muslim countrys. I think everyone should be able to live in harmony with each other whatever they believe in.
