I don't know exactly what Jordan's reputed vertical leap was, I think Thompson's was over 40 inches.

A short list of leapers beyond category:

Cazzie Russell
Julius Irving (Dr. J)
David Thompson
Jordan
Darrell Griffith
Vince Carter
Spud Webb
Kobe Bryant

I know there are a host of others but I'm not too familiar with the young cats out there. Most of 'em could put quarters on top of the backboard or take off from the foul line an slam, except Spud, but he's what, 5'6"?

My all-time favorite has to be Dr. J. Great leaping ability is great. Hang-time is greater. Dr. J performed magic in the air weaving the ball over and under outstretched arms, twisting his body in mid-flight, going behind the backboard and reverse-slamming - often doing all this during the same drive. Check the tapes.
