No, money isn't everything. The ability to hold a decent conversation, enjoy your friends and help those in need counts a great deal.
Concern for the environment and care of weaker beings (children, animals) makes a complete, high quality human.
Don't worry about those shallow people; they probably fail on all counts listed above.

I know what you mean. For a while after I got out of college I worked selling lawnmowers at Sears, and on a couple of occasions I can remember people telling me something along the lines of 'what's a guy like you doing working in a place like this?' People do judge you by how much money they think you make, and also assume that if you aren't in a job that pays 6 figures you must not be very smart. Totally unfair, of course.

Because a lot of people will judge you on what you do, not who you are as a person. The people who look down on you for working fast-food, or other low-income jobs are superficial, and base their existence on attaining satisfaction from material things, and wealth. You should focus on being yourself, and loving you, for you. I know that sounds cheesy; however, every job, no matter what it is, has its own dignity. Be proud of what you do - as long as you are a good, kind, and a caring person, then you have nothing to worry about!

You could be a 1-legged alien and get a fast-food job.
The reason people look down on you, is that you're not ambitious enough to get a job that requires an IQ above 50.
It's not about money, but about bettering yourself and contributing to society as best as you can.

It's just how people are. What can you do? Everybody wants to ride in a nice car, but nobody wants to work a job in a factory building nice cars.
The truth of the world is that yeah, everybody wants to work in the corner office with the view, and have a fancy job title and office. But if every one of us had that, who would build the building the office was in, or manufacture the desk for the computer, or the chair to sit our fancy pants *** in?

People value intelligence and ambition so jobs that require either (or both) have a higher status asscoiated with them. People who are old enough to have jobs other than low-paying non-skilled jobs and have not done so are seen as less intelligent and/or lazy.

Well, they cannot hurt you unless you allow them.
You have these kind of feelings because you allow these feelings to come inside of you.
You can choose to be proud of the job that you do and be the best in it and people look down on you, just choose to not knowing it and still blabber proudly about your job.
They will soon respect you for who you are and not what you earned.
Cheers
