Sometimes yes,
But it could also make your life very miserable.
How does that make you stronger?

I would say that many times the saying is true. When someone goes through a very trying situation, they usually learn valuable life lessons in the process. The next time they find themselves in a rough time they should be able to draw on those lessons and get through the rough time a little bit easier than the last time. People gain confidence and hope when they make it through a bad time that they believed would kill them.
Sometimes however, someone may go through something really devastating and it may effect them in a negative way for the rest of that persons life. I don't know if those people give up or if it's a lack of will to persevere or what, but there are people that for one reason or another fail to recover from a tragic time in their lives.
I think more often than not the saying is correct, but there are times when it is not. Thank you for the interesting question.

I disagree with old Herr Nietzsche on this one. I think that it can be true, but.. sometimes the scars leave a person less able to deal with what comes next.
Did all the Jews feel stronger when they came out of the Konzentrationslaagers? I don't think so... Some of them were just shattered...

For me in some ways it has made me stronger but then in other ways I"m weaker. It's just how you come through the other side. Most people make it but sadly some don't.

Yeah mostly but I could have done without my famous slip and fall on the pop tart and grease in the parking lot! True story, sprained the heck out of my ankle.

I think it is true, because it basically means that every tough experience that you can endure will of course make you stronger, smarter and more experienced.

The rumors of my demise are well exaggerated. Oh Rebellious our loving may kill me but you egging me on makes me stonger. I am solar powered like a mechanical repeater for your love Sweetie
