i had my second doctors visit about a month ago and everything was fine, however, because my blood type is b neg and my husband's is b pos and there were blood tests done, my doc said that i have something dealing with no rh something-or-other. yeah. i don't know exactly what it's called, sorry, but my doc has a very very strong russian accent. basically, if there was any leak from the baby that got into my blood (our blood is different), my body would attack the whole pregnancy thinking as though it was a foreign thing. anyways, but from what i read, i'd have to have three shots throughout my pregnancy. but of course, i haven't had this confirmed just yet with my doc which i plan on doing next wednesday. still, do any of you have any ideas what i'm talking about and whatever this procedure is as well as any information. sorry for the retarded way i described it. it is late and i'm pregnant. so sue me. hehehe.

I have this. You will just have to get a Rhogam shot at about 28 weeks and then another after the birth if the baby has Rh positive blood. I am on baby #3 and have never had a problem. And actually so far I have only needed 1 shot each pregnancy because my sons turned out to be Rh negative like me.

Yes You are RH negative. I am A- and my husband is O+. I had to have the rhogam shots as well. Basically, a positve blood type's blood cell has a little extra part to it.. hence the positive. A negative person does not have this extra part and when you get pregnant, the baby has a 50/50chance of being positive or negative. If it were negative, you'd be fine, but there's always that chance your baby could be positive and this would be dangerous. Why? Well, here's why:

Sometimes the blood from the umbilical cord backwashes into your system. Your immune system is trained to recognize foreign substances and to isolate them and destroy them. Because this babies blood is nothing like yours, your immune system says "Intruder"! Your white blood cells will flood to the site and begin to attack the blood and eventually make it's way towards your baby. When this happens, your babies blood supply begins to deplete and it can actually cause your baby to die.

But good news!! Thanks to the Rhogam shot, this can all be avoided. This shot, which goes into your toosh, helps to mask your babies blood for your immune system. It tells your body, "hey, there's nothing to worry about" and causes you to not react to your baby. This shot should take place before your body develops antibodies to your baby which I believe can happen around 20-25 weeks. The shot should be done before then, but they will have to do a blood test first to make sure it's not too late.

I had the shot, it stung for a minute, but then all is well. Each pregnancy you have, you will have to have these shots. You will get one after your deliveries as well.

Not to worry. The doctor is right on with his diagnosis. Get your shot and then relax. Several years ago you would be high risk for miscarriage, but in this day in age, RH negativity is not longer a big deal due to the Rhogam shot. It is highly effective and a life saver- literally.

yep, your talking about a Rhogam shot that you will get before and after you have the baby. But wait, your RH factor will not affect this baby, and it will only affect your next baby is this baby has a positive RH factor. You still need to get the shots though, because of your husband RH type. Hope this helps.

He was taking about Anti-D injections.
You may have to have them in any subsequent pregnancies too.
If a Rh Neg mum has a Baby with Rh Pos blood then the mums blood cells will "attack" the baby.
Its just protecting your little one and nothing to worry about :)

If the mother has negative blood and the baby has positive blood the mothers body will attack the baby as if the baby was a foreign object. If it is caught eraly on, there are procedures the doc can perform to save the baby.
