sys is the pressure of the blood flowing away from the heart at the time that the heart beats and dia is the pressure of the blood flowing after the beat.

sys = Systolic Blood Pressure
dia = Diastolic Blood Pressure.

I have the Lloyds pharmacy blood pressure monitor and have just checked the chart showing ideal and high blood pressure readings. Listed below :

Hypotension Systolic 100 Diastolic 60 (Low B.P.)
Ideal - Systolic 120 Diastolic 80
Normal - Systolic 120-129 Diastolic 80 -84
High Normal - Systolic 130-139 Diastolic 85 -89
Hypertension
(mild) - Systolic 140-159 Diastolic 90 -99
Hypertension
(moderate) - Systolic 160-179 Diastolic 100 -109
Hypertension
(severe) - Systolic 180-219 Diastolic 110 -119
Hypertension
(very severe) - Systolic 220 Diastolic 120

If systolic BP and diastolic BP fall into different categories, the higher value should be taken for classification.

Consult your doctor if suffering from low blood pressure, for example, fainting.

Blood Pressure is measured in MM HG (Millimeters of Mercury (Hg).
Sys means Systolic. The systolic blood pressure is measured when the heart is contracting to pump blood round the body. This is a measurement of pressure and the reading is a representation of how hard the heart is working to pump the blood round.
Dia means Diastolic. The diastolic reading is taken when the heart is relaxed.
A good reading would be 120 Sys over 60 dias.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Systolic and diastolic are the two readings they give the pressure that blood flows through your heart, perfect bp is 120/70, anything over 140/90 is classed as high and should be checked by your doctor, there are loads of ways of lowering your blood pressure without medical intervention so if its high your gp will probably give you some lifestyle advice before medication

Sys stands for systolic which is the high reading taken as the heart pumps. Dia stands for diastolic which is the low reading when the heart relaxes.

Normal is 120 systolic/ 80 diastolic. Expressed as 120 over 80.

I dont know if you bought an upper arm or wrist monitor . If you bought a wrist one always make sure that that wrist rest against your shoulder ,or your reading will be quite skew whiff .Just dont worry to much about variations in pressure this can happen as the body fires of chemical stimulants according to the body clocks timetable . The average reading is 130 over 80 , but Ive had higher readings consistently 180 over 120 . I had to bully my doctor into giving me Anti hypertensive . One has to take them the rest of ones life but they are an excellent insurance against many illnesses

systolic and diastolic.

Read your directions.

If you don't know these terms you don't have a clue what blood pressure is. It is NOT measured in pounds per square inch.
