Pick out as much as you can, then boil some water and pour a small amount on the wax and wipe up with a towel. Continue this till it is gone. If it is colored, it may stain the carpet, because of the dye in the candle.

Melted wax'll come out best if you employ a few ice cubes to harden the wax's soft nature. "Freeze" the wax by rubbing the ice over the waxed area, untill its cold and hardened. Then use the back edge of a butter knife (or similar dull edged item) to gently dislodge the wax from the carpet fibers.
May need to be repeated, as larger blobs are reduced, re-chilled and then re scraped-work slowly enough as to not damage the fibers.
Remove loosened wax as you go, and use white towels to blot the excess water around the area. Finally, allow to dry and finish vacuum.
There're other methods, but this one's effective and simple. There is only water left to deal with, some methods given will leave an oily residue that requires a solvent and doesnt wash out with water alone. (WD-40)
Basic rule is to avoid any heating/hot water or solvents that might remelt colored waxes and thereby spread the stain. GOOD LUCK!

Here's how it is done, Candle drippings:
For spilled wax on carpet, use a brown paper bag as a blotter and run a hot iron over it, which will absorb the wax. Good Luck !

Put some ice cubes in a plastic bag and set it on the spot for a while getting the candle wax hard and take a small hammer and break it up and it will come up easy.

I spilled a red candle on my light colored carpet. I picked out as much as I could first.
Then, I heated an iron and used white paper towels (sometimes colors in the cloth or paper can discolor your carpet, especially if you add heat or wetness to it.)
I ironed a spot, moved the paper towel and ironed again until it all came out. It worked, you can't see the wax anymore.

this happened to a friend of mine once ..I took a can of wd-40 and sprayed a little of it onto the spot and blotted with a paper towel. Took it right out within a minute or two. Looked as if it never even happened and it was red candle wax needless to say! Good Luck!

this is the way it´s done, First lay brown paper over the stain, then with your iron on setting warm to hot iron over the paper. The heat from the iron will lift the wax on to the paper
