IT can’t really give a company a strategic advantage, because most competitive advantages don’t last more than a few years & soon become strategic necessities that just raise the stakes of the game. Discuss.

IT, itself can not, but the people who deploy, and or utilize sure can be.

Think of it this way, Bill Gates had a computer in the 1970's, so did a lot of other people. So if what you are saying is true, why aren't they up there on Forbes' list.

Honestly, I have worked for a ton of companies, and I have seen crappy vintage IT run by some very intelligent people give miles ahead SA to a company over the best IT in the world run by a group of keyboard pounding "Control-C/Control-V Engineers" [think about it, you'll get it].
