Is it me or when others are against homosexuality, they always blame God for being against it? Pardon me if this is an ignorant question. It is my number one pet peeve with those against homosexuality. If you are against it, why can't YOU just admit you aren't comfortable with it and not blame it on a higher power or that it's part of your religion? I just think it's so ignorant when I hear someone say that God doesn't accept "gays". Maybe it's because my personal God is all loving and perfect in every way and I just can't see him condemning those who have a different orientation to a lifetime in hell. Does anybody else feel the same way or is it just me?

How can God be against two people loving each other?

I think you have a valid point. As you will get people quoting texts in order to justify ignorance. However for some religious people that is how it works, blindly stick to the bible and what the church says, as questioning or even considering deviating from that path is a 'sin' It is about retaining control for the church and just because it has gone on for centuries doesn't make it any more excusable.
I am a strong believer in each to their own, so I resent it when others are self righteous or feel the need to judge. Give me a rational, heartfelt argument and I'll listen. Quote me texts and that means nothing, other than a distortion of any kind of truth.

I think that it completley misses the point for a Christian to tell a Gay person about what God says in the Bible about being Gay. For one thing, most of the verses that they use are out of context, thereby proving them out of the relationship they are supposed to be in. That is known because there is supposed to be a corelation between God's Spirit and the text of the Bible. God wouldn't direct someone who claimed to be from Him to misinterpret scripture. So they, by judging the homosexual, are committing themself to an act out of Faith, and are not bringing a message from God to them.

So those that are described as 'Fundies' are out of touch with the God they say that they serve.

What I personally see is the lack of corelation with what they say to the Gospel. That is the message we are supposed to be preaching, but I guess they get bored with it, or are not taught well enough to carry it into the statements that they make. Again, that's not being obedient to the God they say they serve.

There's no mystery, here, though the explanation could be a bit lengthy.

There are those who honestly do believe that God is against it. For all you or I know, if he exists, he very well might be. Who's to say? But, and this may well be how the belief came about, a lot of people use religion to justify their own baseless hatred and ignorance. It provides one's personal opinion with an artificial authority. If you hate a group, then you're just prejudiced. And that's an ugly, socially unacceptable thing to be. But if God hates them, too, well now you're just passionate about your religion! Presto! Suddenly it's normal and healthy!

CJ - Might I ask you a question, about the free will one can choose to obey or disobey God with? (Not that I believe homosexuality is a decision, mind you.) What determines one's actions, and one's decisions? Is it not one's nature, one's beliefs? What determines one's nature and beliefs? Is one's personality not developed through one's experiences in life?

Would you argue that one is still capable of making the decision to change one's nature? Ah, but what determines whether or not the desire to do so is present? We are brought back to an action, and a decision, based upon personality, developed by factors beyond one's control. Ultimately, it's all predetermined. Certainly, as human beings, we assume a level of responsibility, between each other, so as not to descend into disorder. One is blameless, but equally blameless, are results and consequences. Being that everyone is blameless in the true sense, the notion of responsibility exists by popular consent. However, my opinion is that any truly all-knowing and all-powerful being is 100% responsible for the actions of anything it creates, having set up this system, referred to in my beliefs, as the Causal Web. If there is an all-knowing, all-powerful God, I do not believe he could logically hold anyone responsible for their actions and decisions. Not any more than one could blame a computer for crashing, after knowingly installing a virus on it.

i definitely feel the same way! i am a gay male and i think the only reason people associate God hating homosexuals is because of the "so-called" references in the Bible. my thoughts on this matter are: a.) homosexuality is a fairly new word so how could people have used it so many years ago; b.) everywhere in the Bible you read about "love" and loving everyone as God has loved us so i don't think He would pick and choose who He would love; c.) in the book of Job, Job talks about personal hygiene and mentions that men shouldn't share a bed with a woman who happens to be on her menstrual cycle. i'm sure many men who "follow the Bible" have shared a bed with a woman who was on her period.

another pet peeve i have is when people force their beliefs on their children. on the show "30 days" they had a straight man live in the castro district in san francisco. the host, morgan spurlock, interviewed a horrible grandfather who protests with his family and grandchildren. they hold signs that say, "God hates f**s," and "God laughs when f**s die." how absolutely horrendous and what a terrible example that grandfather is setting for his children and grandchildren. he is not allowing them to have their own viewpoints! (sorry, kinda went on to an extra rant there!) point is, God loves everyone and is a kind and merciful God. 'nuff said!

Ma'am or Sir,

I don't know which "god" you are referring to who is all-loving and perfect, but surely you cannot be referring to the Christian God. The God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob states clearly in the Word of God that He considers homosexuality an "abomination." No matter how well you try to whitewash it, or invent a god who condones your lifestyle, you certainly will not get consent from the REAL God of the Bible.

If Christians state that they are against homosexuality because their faith dictates them to do so, then why is that answer insufficient for you? The answer is, you want them to go against what they believe in order to agree with you. And if they do not, then you deem them wrong, and you have "pet peeves" against them. They are not blaming anything on a "higher power", whatever that is. They are obeying God, whom they love.

God does not condemn you to hell, you misunderstand the nature of God. He is not some deity who has the hammer ******, waiting on you to screw up, so He can pull the trigger on you and sentence you to eternal damnation. You have a choice whether you agree with God and obey, or disagree and not obey. That is a free will choice that God has given you. If you decide that your lifestyle supercedes the will of God, then you have chosen the path you are going to take, and the consequences thereof. If you choose to obey God, then you will receive the rewards and blessings that He promises you. God puts no one in hell, that is entirely up to you.

My advice to you is to read a Bible and find out what God really has to say. And yes, it will be contrary to your current lifestyle. So you have a choice, you can either accept what He says, or you can continue to hide behind some "deity" of your own imagination who condones what you're doing.

You decide.

I think ignorance and hate is an abomination. Again, what you have stated is a clear example of a few answers given. What is that guy doing in this forum anyway? Is there something that he should be admitting to God about himself?

Because it is the knowledge of right and wrong from the Lord, that makes one say that homosexuality is wrong!!

You are missing moral fiber to even say the things you have said.

If you had created someone or something and gave that being rules and laws to live by, don't you have the right to deal out the punishment for disobedience? It's not God's fault if someone wants to disobey the laws of God and nature....
