I was treated well growing up, in many of the ways that count. I always thought I was loved even though I don't remember ever being hugged. That seems strange when I think back on it. I remember asking my mother why she never hugged me or told me she loved me while I was growing up and she responded that she was raised that way and she used to hug me when I was a toddler but couldn't bring herself to do it as I got a little older.

Then I acquired a step-father at around 2-3 years old and he never once told me he loved me and never once held me or hugged me. I think that is why I have been married 4 times and why I married at age 17 the first time---always seeking a man's affection---maybe--who knows???

You say your parents were tough. I'm sorry to hear that, if it caused you to have problems. My mother was very strict, but my step-father was a push over and consequently I thought he was a pansy and that I could 'walk all over him' and I didn't respect him. I feel really bad about that now.

I have apologized to him as an adult but I still hurt deep inside for never receiving affection from him and never receiving the love of a father.

Very insightful question, by the way! Thank You!

By the way, this is an add-on to my previous remarks--MY MOTHER is wonderful and the best friend in the world to me, now and the two of us HUG all the time whenever we get together----YEAH!

I'm still growing up, but I hope i can answer this. and yes I am treated VERY well. I'm as spoiled as he**, I've only been yelled at once in my lifetime (and it was for something REALLY BAD), my mom doesn't act like a mom half of the time she is acting as if she were my roommate, or something, in fact I would say that I have one of the best childhoods in the world!!!!
YAY ME!!!!!!!

Yes, but my parents were distant. They were kind of caught up in their own problems. But they took good care of me and my sister.
